About Me:
David has had a long career designing, building and performing with puppets.

After graduating from the National Theatre School of Canada in 1993 he went on to specialize in popular theatre styles such as Comadia Del’arte, Clown, and Caporal Mime. Having trained as a dancer from a young age David has also continued to develop his work in movement analysis. Tikedo, Contact improvisation, Ballet, and Bhutto are among the disciplines he has pursued. Philip Gaulier, Carlo Mazzone Clemente, Augusto Boal, Anzu Fucuramia and Dario Fo are amongst the many individuals David has studied under.

Puppetry however has become David’s area of expertise and after seeking out and apprenticing with experts of the various traditions (such as Bonraku), David went on to co-found a puppet theatre laboratory. For three years he managed a small team that produced and toured their work throughout the Canadian maritime provinces. Out of this research new training principles were established, leading to a unique methodology. David has since then found himself in demand as teacher and a coach across the globe. Companies David has worked for include Bread and Puppet Theater, mermaid Puppet Theater and the Oden Theater in Denmark. David has also toured with his puppets performing in street theater and puppet festivals across the Americas and Europe. Work in film includes “South Border” with the renowned Russian performance group Derivo and he was recently brought in as head puppeteer on the Sci-Fi film “Serene”.

David has extensive experience in engaging with a broad range of the public such as working with street children in Brazil and with the mentally handicapped and underprivileged children here in Europe.

David is passionate in his belief that not only do the arts and sciences have vast amounts to offer one and other but their union is ideal for reaching out to a public that is so often alienated from science and technology. The deep divide between the sciences and the arts is something David longs to bridge.

Currently David is a studying under Mathew Studley and hopes that arming myself with the tools of a robotic engineer He will be able to bring to life his creative work as well as bring creative inspiration to the scientific field. David strongly suspects that an explosion of interest, insight and progress will come as the arts joining forces with science and technology
